Yard/ Front Desk attendant at a thriving canine daycare and boarding facility. Yard attendants are responsible for overseeing the general wellbeing of the 100+ dogs in our care on a daily basis. This includes monitoring playgroups in the yard of all breeds and sizes as well as 3 daily feeding times and attending to any and all medicinal needs of every individual dog. A strong knowledge of dog body language is necessary to oversee all of the dogs. The ability to decipher playful behavior from aggression and agitation is needed at all times. If a fight ever does occur, employees must work together quickly to seperate the dogs, remove them from the yard and assess them for possible injury. Veterinary nursing skills are extremely helpful in this case, allowing the staff to restrain the injured dog and treat any wounds they have sustained. I also work at the front desk, where friendly and knowledgeable customer service is key. I am expected to answer phones, relay information to potential clients regarding necessary documents and such they must bring in order for their dog to become a camper. We are also expected to walk dogs to and from the yard from the front, check dogs in and out of our computer system, and charge customers for their dogs' daycare and boarding. We are also responsible for conducting 10-15 minute temperament tests for all new possible campers where we must assess their behavior and overall temperament in a room with 3 existing campers. If we find the dog is curious, has soft body language, and is friendly with us and the other dogs, they are allowed to become campers. Show less

    • Animal Care Attendant
      • Aug 2016 - Oct 2017

Being an Animal Care Attendant at CVACF required hands-on knowledge of carefully and passionately caring for dogs, cats, and exotics in a shelter setting. Our main goal was to keep adoptable animals healthy and happy! Tasks included but were not limited to; feeding animals in the morning and afternoon, cleaning out kennels individually all throughout the shift, replacing bedding and chew toys in necessary kennels, rotating dogs through play yards as to assure they all get proper physical stimulation, and keeping the facility clean and disease free by continually disinfecting all areas around the shelter. * Before becoming an employee here, I completed 100 hours of externship while becoming a certified vet assistant. While working in the medical department of this facility, my tasks included; administering necessary medicine to shelter animals 2 times a day which included subqutaneous fluids and vaccinations, cleaned out the kennels in the medical rooms daily, more than once if necessary, and assisting in surgery, which included monitoring anesthesia, sanitizing surgery site, expressing bladders prior to spay sugeries, administering tattoos to animals while under anesthesia, post-anesthetic care of each animal and surgery suite clean up after all animals had been worked on. I also became quite familiar with the importance of sanitizing when dealing with diseases, zoonotic and non. I spent a lot of time caring for puppies in our care who had parvo. I took exreme measures in assuring I would not spread the disease by wearing all necessary PPE, and only handled the puppies to check vitals, administer necessary meds, and clean out kennels to administer fresh bedding and water. • Simply Local
    • Greater San Diego Area
    • Vendor Coordinator
      • Feb 2014 - Jun 2016

The Vendor Coordinator position that I held at this company gave me a great working knowledge of customer service that I am proud to carry with me today. This company was essentially a space in which local businesses would rent spaces to display the various products that they made. My job was to seek out small business owners in the area whose products I believed would sell in our store. I became confident in approaching artists to speak with them about opportunities to expand their small business. I learned how to display a variety of benefits to becoming a client of our business depending upon the needs of the business owner. I would convince them that their products would be a right fit for our store based on the demographic, the traffic flow and the price point of their items. If they agreed to become a vendor, I would go over every aspect of being a vendor with a fine tooth comb. I would also go over a standard vendor contract with them. This taught me how to patiently work with a variety of personalities in order to convey lengthy law information in a friendly and understandable manner. During their time selling products with us, I acted as their service rep, allowing them to contact me anytime with questions, concerns or comments about their sales, their products, ideas they had about expanding or downsizing their space. During my time as vendor coordinator, I worked with hundreds of small business owners to assure they had someone to speak with at all times regarding anything they needed. Show less

    • Dog Groomer
      • Aug 2013 - Mar 2014

As a groomer at this high caliber boutique, I found it vital to introduce myself to all of my clients. My goal was to assure the client that their pet would be receiving the best care available and that their dog would receive the desired cut and style. I learned how to communicate effectively with many clients and potential clients regarding the proper way to care for their dog between visits to the salon. I can very comfortably handle dogs and cats of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments. I am proficient in detecting minute issues with the skin, coat, nails and possible internal issues as well as gently relaying this information to owners. Show less

    • Pet Groomer
      • Jul 2012 - Aug 2013

As a pet groomer at Preen 2 Pristine, I was responsible for managing a schedule of upwards of 6-7 grooms and baths a day. During this time I became familiar with the proper way to handle a variety of dog and cat breeds to reduce the stress that is common in grooming salons. It became essential to correctly read their body language to decipher whether I was safe to continue a particular aspect of the groom or not. It was my goal to keep the animal as calm and stress-free as possible during their time with me. I also became proficient in dog and cat breed knowledge; their temperaments, common health issues and grooming requirements. Show less
