The former Hunt Leibert is one of the leading foreclosure firms in CT, merged with McCalla based out of Georgia in 2017. The firm leads the industry in handling many of the biggest lending banks in the United States. My role with the firm included processing case files for court on a weekly basis, preparing for judgment to enter. I was tasked with preparing motions and notices to extend or vacate judgment after it was obtained or filing notice when the defendants filed for bankruptcy. I also updated our clients through various client software systems as well as updating our own legal systems, fielded calls and questions from pro se parties and attorneys, e-filed motions as well as monitored PACER for bankruptcies and terminations.

Well-regarded firm specializing in Worker's Compensation and Social Security Disability, with a side of personal injury. Clients here remain clients for life. The bulk of my day was handling heavy client contact from phone calls and in-office visits for assistance with medical issues, authorizations to treat and any other issues that needed to be resolved. I was also responsible for initial intake of each client, gathering the information needed by the attorney to assess each case before meeting with the client. As for Social Security Disability, I gathered the information required from the client and applied online for them, handling the bulk of the paperwork necessary for each claim. I kept track of deadlines and statutes of limitations for each case to ensure a timely appeal when needed. Personal injury is similar to worker's compensation in that I handled the initial intake and paperwork to file the Complaint in each case. I gathered medical records, insurance information, police reports and personal information as well as the client's description of events for the attorney as needed.

Started with the firm as a bookkeeper and Human Resources manager, responsible for all accounts payable and receivable, monthly invoicing, payroll, quarterly tax reporting, preparing financial reports for clients, handling all aspects of health insurance coverage and maintenance, managed the 401K account for employees and more. When an opening came up in February 2014, I transitioned into a paralegal role and lent support for six attorneys, drafting communications with clients and outside counsel, gathering evidence for Discovery including medical records, police reports and drafting/answering interrogatories and requests for production, performing background checks for cases, E-filing with the court and managing the short calendars. I also set up appointments with clients and witnesses, scheduled depositions, drafted subpoenas and had them served, assisted with creating trial notebooks to prepare for trial, created mass media to be used in court room settings and whatever else was requested of me in my daily duties.

    • Paralegal Intern
      • Sep 2012 - Mar 2013

Paralegal intern prepared complaints to start a lawsuit, filed motions during the process and prepared trial notebooks for the court room during jury trials. I also used PowerPoint to create a presentation for opening and closing arguments in preparation for a trial.Utilizing legal research engines such as Westlaw and LexusNexus, I researched state and federal statutes and case law to formulate prosecution or defense for our clients. I performed legal investigations, taking pictures of evidence and doing research of land records to prepare for a trial case.I processed a probate estate for a client of the firm under the guidance of the attorney, navigating the probate court system for the client with regards to all aspects of executing a will and dispersing the estate.
