As an Operations Director, it was my responsibility alongside my team to ensure all MIBA-run events are run smoothly. This requires smooth coordination between U of T’s Department of Management and open internal communication within MIBA. I have been able to develop my team working and time management skills, as well as ensuring communication and efficiency can be maximized during all of our meetings and events. Our events can’t run smoothly without the whole MIBA team working together! In 2022 so far, we hosted an incredibly successful first year orientation for incoming MIB students. Going forward, we are currently planning Empower, our annual case competition and networking event and an alumni night for students and alumni to connect.

Through active participation in monthly workshops, I broadened my understanding on the music industry. Learning how to create an effective pitch deck, deliver a communicative elevator pitch, and how different departments in a label work together are just a few of the topics. I developed connections with my fellow street team members across the globe (900+ members from 5+ countries). Sharing and learning from their experiences was one of the most valuable parts of my membership in Fan to Band.

    • Seasonal Sales Associate
      • Aug 2022 - Sep 2022

Although this was a seasonal hire for the incoming September rush, I was required to learn my responsibilities quickly and adapt to the environment well. I learned how to use the POS system, where different items were located around the store, and how inventory and stock worked within a week. From completing transactions to recommending a variety of U of T merchandise to students and family members, I was able to strengthen my customer service abilities. This role challenged me to think fast on my feet, manage different customers’ requests, and communicate efficiently with my coworkers.

My role as an Events Associate introduced me to a variety to new skills that challenged and cultivated my abilities to work individually and in a team. Being able to see the event-planning process from start to finish allowed me understand the amount of time and effort that was required to plan a successful event. During my time as an Events Associate, I assisted the directors and VPs of the events team in various tasks, such as reaching out to speakers and networkers for our events, communicating marketing needs to the Marketing team, and coordinating with our co-presidents to ensure they were kept in the loop.

Initially hired as a seasonal sales associate, I was introduced to a fast-paced environment right off the bat. Learning how to effectively connect several customers to a variety of high-quality products around the store at once is one of the key takeaways, as I adapted to this new environment very fast. When there was a break during the peak hours, I frequently stocked, replenished, and organized inventory both effectively and correctly. This cultivated my organizational skills, ensuring I was always aware about what needed to be added to various shelves and what customers usually purchased. Whether I had just started my shift or was finishing up, I consistently delivered exceptional customer service to provide the best possible experience. Customers left with their needs met, paired with a good conversation during that time. Once the seasonal contract had expired, I was promoted to a part-time sales associate on the team at Markville. I remained on the team until the closure of the store due to the COVID-19 pandemic in July.
