I had a varied caseload of children with a range of disabilities including neurological co0nditions, developmental co-ordination disorder and learning difficulties. My role involved assessing children, providing direct therapy and offering written programmes and advise to parents and other agencies such as teachers and carers. I worked in a variety of settings including homes, schools and clinics. I enjoyed working as an active member of the multidisciplinary team with colleagues from Health, Education and Social Work.The Knowledge and Skills Developed within the role included:• A working knowledge of a broad range of equipment including seating, ADL equipment and a variety of companies• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including IT and presentation skills• Ability to work with multiple service users for the benefit of the child e.g. Parents, teachers, Social Workers and other AHPs• Ability to Administer and interpret standardised assessments including:- Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration (Beery)- Test of Visual Perception (Gardener)- Denver II Developmental Screening Test- Movement Assessment Battery for Children (Henderson)- Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency- Developmental Test of Visual Perception – 2nd Edition• Observation skills and non-standardised assessment methods• Experience of using a variety of OT treatment approaches and relevant OT practisesAchievements in this Post Included~• Representing Lanarkshire Paediatrics in the Muscular Dystrophy Network• Providing Lectures on the role of the Paediatric OT at Glasgow Caledonian University• Developing Guidelines/protocols for seating, feeding and OT assessments of a child with complex needs• Active contribution to the redesign of the Paediatric Service
