During the time of my graduation in spring 2011, I was interacting with Sharon on regular basis. I still remember that time when I was trying to complete my thesis writing, at the same time, follow through the logistical to graduate. I was really fortunate to have Sharon as our Graduate Coordinator and she proved how skilled and deeply engaged she is with her profession. She almost took my burden and followed-up with my graduation logistical, that included coordinating with registrar office etc. This was really a great help that allowed me to concentrate on my writing. Sharon, I don’t have right words to express my gratitude.

I have known Sharon as the Graduate Program Coordinator at George Mason University's Environmental Science and Policy Program. She is one of the most efficient coordinators I have worked with. Always ready with the necessary information, Sharon has helped me navigate the complex world of department procedure with ease. Sharon is well versed with department policies and communicates program news and events very effectively through many kinds of media. She is also extremely sensitive to student's needs and is very good at making sure that the graduate students in the program have get the most out of their program. I am grateful that she is working with the program here and I highly recommend her.

Sharon began a ½ -time position by managing a very large 200 student master’s program. She immediately converted program information from paper to digital format before uploading it to the Department website resulting in streamlining the program’s outdated processes. Within a year, the doctoral coordinator resigned, so Sharon volunteered to take responsibility of the program. She advised & tracked student progress, coordinated research & teaching graduate assistantships, managed graduate admissions, & managed the PhD Comprehensive Exam Process while acting as the graduation degree auditor. She recruited & advised prospective students, planned & executed information sessions & orientations which required her to attend events outside of her part-time position. She developed & added three graduate webpages as a part of her thesis project resulting in an increased efficiency of the program & managed three student listservs to enhance communication. When a new program director joined the department, she trained him in program advising & protocol. To add to her workload, she took on the additional work of coordinating a new art history graduate program with enthusiasm & energy without asking for additional pay or reward. Sharon performed a special research project to identify where security breaches existed within her office which resulted in workplace security improvements for the department. This initiative resulted in her earning a Supervisor Certificate in 2008. She performed this ¾ -time job while graduating in 2006 with honors. She received awards for Exceptional Support & Outstanding Support in 2004, 2005, & 2008. Show less
