Experiential learning (EL) experiences are an important component of a university education as they have a positive impact on career-related attitudes, knowledge, and skills for all undergraduate students (Burgstahler, 2001). Students with disabilities, however, cannot always participate in EL opportunities because of a variety of reasons, which include instructors’ lack of understanding of the nature of disabilities and inappropriate accommodations made for students with disabilities, as well as stressors caused by physical demands, mental or emotional struggles and social stigmatization associated with their disability (Brigham et al., 2001; Hong, 2015). The present study assessed the degree to which demographic factors, type and severity of disability, dispositional factors, and overall adjustment and wellbeing are predictive of the quality of EL experiences among university students with disabilities. Results based on a survey of 107 students with disabilities showed that for the most part dispositional factors as well as adjustment and wellbeing variables rather than demographic factors or type and severity of disability are significant predictors of quality of EL experiences. Further research directions and practical implications for EL programs are discussed. Show less
