Working with the People & Culture Team at Silver Hills, I developed the content and process for onboarding new employees. In addition to this formalized onboarding process I worked closely with the Operations team to develop and implement a formal training program for production employees. This program was proven successful through documentation and tracking of tasks which were followed progressively giving new employees time to learn, absorb and improve their skill. The progressive nature of the program also helped new employees build confidence and develop more sustainable relationships with their co-workers. The program itself required the input and leadership of both Operations and People & Culture teams. The direct impact is a reduction in turnover, consistency in performance, and clearer communication. The indirect impact was bridging a gap between People & Culture and Operations; the training program allowed each department to understand the needs of the other and come together to create the desired outcome. Operating as a consultant, I fulfilled the duties of HR Manager in a unionized production facility. The facility had 20 years of history with an employee count of approximately 120 people. Working closely with the Production Manager and team, I was able to implement a Code of Conduct with the intent to create a more accountable environment, and remove long term behavior challenges. The accountability was further supported by a formalized disciplinary policy that provided management opportunity to hold people accountable in a consistent manner which resulted in improved culture, consistency in reported numbers to customer, and a more reliable work force.
