Planning and Enforcement Officer

Jul 2017 - Present
since commencing my employment within the public sector I have learnt the vast number of differences in how planners work and how to interpret and approach variety of customers and stakeholders. One key aspect of my skills that has been tested and honed is my time and project management ability due to the volume of applications I manage. Additionally I feel that liaising with the public as well as developers and third parties has significantly improved my communication skills, durability and confidence in my decision-making. I have completed multiple officers’ reports, dealt with Judicial Reviews and interviews under caution in an enforcement perspective as well as writing appeal statements and speaking a committee. As well as undertaking my day to day role as an officer I have also taken on additional responsibilities in working with the Licensing Team to advise on their new licensing policy and form a proactive toolkit for both regimes to work together minimising enforcement proceedings and improving expenditure levels. Jul 2015 - Jun 2017
Returning to GPS Ltd in July 2015, I worked in both the application and appeals team, preparing a range of documentation. I took personal responsibility for the preparation of multiple CLEUD applications, including writing the accompanying planning statements and producing drawings for a number of dwellings as well as layouts for larger development schemes, using both ArchiCAD and Mircostation. I completed research for and wrote a number of appeal statements, heritage and landscape statements and five-year land supply statements. In my day-to-day role I was responsible for the monitoring of approximately 20-30 applications, as well as liaising with clients and the relevant consultants. While working at GPS Ltd I attended site visits to advise clients, arranged client meetings, represented the company at a number of CPD events, attended Grand Design Live exhibition to promote the company and assisted in topographic and building surveys. During my time working in this fast paced practice I improved my knowledge of the planning system and planning law and developed my transferable and ‘soft’ skills including communication; through liaising with clients and consultants both in written and verbal form, team working and my ability to work to deadlines in a time efficient and effective manner. Dec 2012 - Dec 2012
For this work experience I completed an onsite building survey, taking copious meticulous notes and organising the data collected into AutoCAD drawings and a spreadsheet. I used both manual and electrical measurements interpreting plans and identifying anomalies within them. Throughout the survey was continually quizzed on my general building knowledge and the causes of construction defects within buildings.
