• Fulfilled the first of two semester-long externships with the Twin Cities’ leading provider of advanced radiation treatment for cancer patients. Toured and rotated through the facility, shadowing physicians, nurses and technologists to gain exposure to the profession. • Observed and participated in daily Radiation treatments using Varian Machine, Aria EMR), simulations, linear accelerator with on-board imaging (including 4-D Cone Beam CT), capable of performing image-guided intensity-modulated radiation treatments (IMRT), Modern Vision RT technology used to accurately set up and monitor breathing, and accurate high-dose delivery to the lung using stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). • Monitored the fulfillment of appointments with nursing staff and physicians. • Diligently participated in the Quality Assurance program, weekly chart rounds, and conferences with physicians. • Participated in CT Simulations of patient treatment. Created custom immobilization devices, took measurements for treatment planning, performed CT scan and scout films, and made adjustments for field of view/treatment area.
