3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment 'Parachute' (3RAR 'Para') was Australia's only parachute infantry battalion of the Australian Army. 3RAR 'Para' provided [1983-2011] Australia a high readiness capability and, contributed a major element within the nations Ready Deployment Force. As a conventional combat unit, 3RAR’s primary airborne role was developed around their parachute capability. Beyond the role of infantry soldiers adept in all forms of conventional warfare, the Unit’s strategic role was to deploy by air and parachute, to secure either a port air-head or beach-head in advance of larger conventional forces. Members of 3RAR are highly adaptive, full-time professional Soldiers who -- beyond combat tasks, perform peacemaking, peacekeeping, force-security, force-training and humanitarian roles as tasked by government. Australian (AU) Paratroopers were cross-skilled; multi-role, direct-action combat-operators capable of rapid deployment – AU infantry members’.[all RAR Battalions] are hardened soldiers capable of excelling in complex, arduous and austere operational settings – their mission: Win the land battle. Regiment Motto: Duty First Battalion Nickname: Old Faithful Due to ongoing injury, he transferred out of 3RAR and served with the Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corp (RAAOC) from 1990 -1992. Serving with the Australian Army, especially as an Infantry Paratrooper, developed Darren's leadership and team building skills. It also developed and honed his self-discipline and organisational skills due to the ongoing demanding requirements for combat and deployment readiness. His military service also instilled a winning attitude, as well as the mental determination to never give up, no matter how difficult or adverse the situation or conditions to achieve the desired objective.
