Owner and Creator at ShandaiMade

May 2011 - Present
I have been selling items (a range: knitted, crocheted, jewelry, fine art painting, sewn) on Etsy for 10 years (April 2011) Most recently (2018) I transitioned (after having my daughter) into sewing items that are both beautiful and useful with a focus on kids and pets. During the ongoing pandemic I have donated 100s of masks and have made almost a 1000 masks since it started (it was my most popular item in 2020) I started selling at in person events June 2018 (with a break in 2020) ranging from Craft Fairs to Farmers Markets, and Festivals (Pride, Renaissance) I do all my own research and booking, I have run a successful Kickstarter (2018), and I have kept all my own accounting using Excel and Quickbooks. The thing I love the most however is interacting with people, figuring out what they need, and presenting them what I have to offer (even if it takes research and self education to create that offer). I pride this as one of my greatest talents. Most of the communication and advertising for ShandaiMade happens through email or on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and I created my own website in 2020. Being a sole business owner, you of course, get to put your fingers in a lot of pots, I also take all my own photographs and do all my own listing and advertising. I am self taught in everything I do for my business (except I do remember Home Ec teaching me how to thread a sewing machine) I have occasionally hired production help, which usually means training and sometimes creating kits for functional take home work. This also means teaching employees how to do it "the ShandaiMade way" so that there is consistency across product. I have developed reasonable wages for take home projects and keeping up with productivity (especially on a time crunch). I have really enjoyed training and teaching people how to use creative equipment. Show less

Personal Shopper

Jul 2018 - Present
Shopping for customers, mostly at Target, communicating purely through text messaging and the software (app) provided by Shipt. Requires very good written communication skills, friendly and accommodating demeaner, self motivation, the ability to move quickly through an order without distraction, use of a company credit card, and attention to detail. As I can shop any time and set my own schedule it was mostly been for extra pocket money when needed. Gamemaster
-
Feb 2021 - Present
Being a Gamemaster involves introducing groups of people to their Escape Room room, relaying any rules they must follow and communicating with them digitally in a timely fashion as they play while observing on camera. Creative written communication skills (hints need to be themed with the room, not too obvious, and match their specific needs), intense attention to detail (several cameras and angles to see how far they have come and what they might need help with next), anticipation of needs (they are timed so those hints need to come fast, and knowing when they would prefer not to have help is very important). I have also been involved in event planning, creating art fair contracts and organizing event space. I have done advertising, research and logistics and project management assistance throughout my time there. Other skills used: prop creation, painting, signmaking, santizing and maintaining covid protocols. Show less

Social Media Evaluator
-
Mar 2016 - Jul 2018
Worked from home evaluating and categorizing social media queries based on a predetermined set of standards. Understanding written instruction was a must working online like this. Also being able to apply those specific rules to each unique query without supervision or input from an outside source in the moment was required. My work was timed and there was a threshold I needed to reach (queries per hour) to remain on the project. Samples of my work were taken weekly and tested by another evaluator, at which point I would review the ones that disagreed with my categorization and either accept (and learn) or reject and have re-evaluated by someone higher up. I could do this any time of day, and anywhere with an internet connection, but the amount of focus it required did mean creating a home office style situation where I could have quiet and wouldn't be interrupted too often. Professional Cuddlist
-
Nov 2016 - May 2017
Certified Professional Cuddlist and Alternative Healing Touch Provider that could be booked through Cuddlist.com. I had entered this line of work with a strong belief (that I still carry today) that people need human contact to maintain their mental health and that western culture seems to inhibit our ability to seek out consensual, nonsexual and platonic touch easily without shame. My training taught me to provide a service that assisted someone's specific needs while at the same time honoring my own boundaries and Cuddlist Code of Conduct. Actual touch was only given and received after listening to what clients request, asking questions, being genuinely interested in their answers and helping them communicate clearly to me their needs so that I could provide to them a fulfilling service. One of the most important things I took from my training and this role was being able to practice/teach giving and receiving consent. A solid "Yes" or "No" was always required when deciding what a session would look like from both parties involved. Being able to verbally communicate in a way that allowed the client to come up with their own ideas without leading them with my own was a challenge at times but rewarding to say the least. Show less
