Shakira went above and beyond making myself and my filmmaking team feel welcomed at the May 2022 Doclands Film Festival in San Rafael, CA. She didn't have to arrange meetings with other filmmakers and local area activists, but she did. She made sure students were engaged at our education screening. She was a great host whose focus, drive and humor were paramount to us having a good experience. I'd welcome working with Shakira in the future and look forward to connecting with her again in the near future. -- Kevin Shaw

I've worked with Shakira to produce Variety's 10 Screenwriters to Watch dinner and panel conversation at the Mill Valley Film Festival for three consecutive years and each time has been such a pleasure. Shakira is an organized, strategic and thoughtful executive that can act quickly under pressure and problem solve on the fly. We've had a tremendous working relationship so far and I'm excited to continue the partnership in the future.

    • Lead Producer Short Documentary
      • 2017 - Sep 2018

Sincerely, The Black Kids is a 2018 short form documentary on the institutional challenges black student government leaders face in primarily white institutions nationwide. In this film we visit Clemson, Cornell, American University and New College of Florida to highlight the problems students of color in leadership positions face at primarily white institutions. We discover that these issues cannot be looked at as isolated incidents. They seem to be indicative of how unprepared University administrators are in dealing with racist and race based conflicts on their campuses.
