Coco coir or coir peat is the ground-up seed husk tissue from the coconut palm tree which is known as ‘Tree of Life’. It is an environmentally friendly grown medium since coconuthusk is a renewable, biodegradable resource. Traditionally, it is used for making doormats, ropes, decorative items and in upholstery industry. However, there are remarkableapplications of coconut coir and coir dust in diverse fields. The fibrous material is slightly acidic with a pH range of 5 to 6.8. Because coir is sterile, it is very good seed staringmedium. Lignocellulosic biomass obtained from coconut is an attractive precursor for biochar preparation, as it shows high porosity. In the construction sector, eco-efficientmaterials obtained from coconut coir can innovatively substitute some traditional construction materials like particleboards having applications as insulating ceiling and walls. Also, coir dust extract acts as a good corrosion inhibitor for acid induced corrosion of aluminium via adsorption of the extract components on the metal surface through the functionalgroups present on the extract. Coir-based biochars manifest as cost-effective scavengers for chromium (VI), mercury (II), etc.

Accretion in urbanization leads to a spike in industrial, agricultural, and domestic activities that led to contamination of water as well as atmosphere with both organic and inorganic pollutants. In order to curtail the harmful effects of pollutants, there is a global need of development of highly effective technologies which can enhance the water and air quality. Several nanoparticles such as TiO2 (Titania) nano catalysts and Manganese-doped as well asundopedZnO photo catalysts have potential to treat “difficult-to-remove” contaminants and thus are expected to play an important role in the remediation of environmental and pollution challenges.Titania and zinc nanoparticles can destruct or transform hazardous chemical wastes to innocuous end-products, such as CO2 and H2O and can be projected as both supplementary and complementary to the present water-treatment technologies. This paper summarizes recent efforts in the area of nanoparticle synthesis, modifications, and application of the nanoparticles for removal or degradation of such pollutants
