Mike McGrew, who heads up Moriah Freedom Ministry and leads the Santa Barbara office of Moriah, had a long career as a detective and major crimes investigator for the Santa Barbara Police Department. Although he had not been a religious man, his life changed dramatically when his son, Michael “T.T.”, who had been battling bone cancer for 8 years, died from an overdose in 2010. Mike’s cousin, a fellow police officer, talked with him about God, and Mike began to listen. “I went from having no faith, to that’s all that I wanted,” he says. “It brought peace to me. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I had chased it at the bottom of an alcohol bottle.” He turned his life over to Jesus Christ, and since then Mike has spent his time ministering to fellow police officers, people he has had to stop for traffic violations or arrest for more serious crimes, and people on the streets. He speaks to parishioners at Moriah Bible Fellowship in Santa Barbara every Sunday. “Being of service to the Lord brings me a lot of joy, and I didn’t have that for a lot of years,” Mike’s life has turned around since he placed his faith in Jesus. He credits God with healing him from colon cancer and freeing him from an addiction to alcohol, as well as with saving his marriage to the woman who first introduced him to Christ at a Christian concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
