The EU-Canada Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) has been provisionally applied since 21 September 2017. The Agreement includes chapters on Trade and Sustainable Development, Trade and Labour and Trade and Environment (chapters 22 to 24).These chapters include the EU's and Canada's commitments to promote labour rights, environmental protection and sustainable development, as defined by international instruments such as ILO Conventions and multilateral environmental agreements, including through actions in areas such as sustainable forestry, fisheries, or corporate social responsibility. These chapters provide for the establishment by each Party of domestic advisory groups (DAG) composed of representatives of civil society organisations. The EU DAG under CETA comprises members from the European Economic and Social Committee and from other European civil society organisations ensuring a balanced representation of economic, social and environmental stakeholders, including among others, employers' and workers' organisations and other relevant stakeholders. The primary purpose of the EU DAG is to submit opinions and make recommendations on any matter related to the implementation of the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter within the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.I represent there Eurogroup for Animals, and our cause more generally.
