Project Lead for Robotic Manipulator Capstone Project
-
Jan 2016 - Jan 2017
Upper Echelon Engineering was a 4 member Capstone team founded by Project Leader Sergio A. Molina during the year of 2016. The team members share a passion for robotics and learned that the students involved in the Fall '16 Robotics course offered at UTSA could benefit from a robotic manipulator. The team realized that the laboratory section did not apply the important theoretical concepts of Forward Kinematics, Inverse Kinematics, and Trajectory Generation taught in Robotics so they created a device that would. To accomplish this, the team created 3 unique experiments that provide insight and challenge students in robotics by probing them to interpret quantified data and form discussion based on experimental outcomes. In addition, Sergio A. Molina was able to create a custom graphical-user interface that serves as a graphics controller for the manipulator. He also created the only Simulink block library that is currently available to provide students with an easy programming scheme to control the motors of the manipulator through block diagrams. The project remained on schedule with an Schedule Performance Index of 1 and under budget with a Cost Performance Index and Cost Variance of 1.03 and -$2,792.10, respectively. Show less
