The NYCEAC Helpline for Concerned Persons provides supportive counseling, information, and education to non-abusing family, friends, and neighbors of older adults experiencing abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. As the Helpline Specialist, I provide confidential conversations to help concerned persons make informed decisions and gain emotion support through stressful, and even traumatic times. The Victim Intervention Program provides services to any victim of a crime in the ED and throughout the hospital, as well as to folks in the community who may not be patients at the hospital. My role as a social work intern is to provide emotional support, safety assessments, safety planning, education and legal advocacy to victims of crime, specializing in working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I also provide short term (12 week) trauma focused outpatient therapy.
