Experience

    • Operations Geologist
      • Sep 2017 - Present

I am currently employed at the copper exploiting open pit mine, Los Bronces Mine. My responsibilities are mainly production geology, complemented by exposure to other related specialist geosciences techniques such as brownfields exploration, resource modelling, and geometallurgy. Beyound the production geology duties, I am responsible for the Blast Movement Monitoring trial project that is aimed at improving ore control at Los Bronces. I was employed at the PGM exploiting Mogalakwena mine. The mine operates with 4 active pits, making it the largest mine of its kind in the world. I was responsible for production geology and overseeing value-adding geological projects; responsibilities that included: (a) Acting as the stand-by geologist, responsible for mine-wide production geology tasks.(b) Mapping geological structures, modelling, and interpretating the structural models of all four pits (using MAPTEK software). I was, thus, the responsible structural geologist.(c) Logging of Bushveld Complex core and RC drill chip logging (Northern Limb geology).(d) QAQC on assay methodology for diamond core samples vs. RC samples (supervising DD & RC drilling teams and sample analysis process downstream) and their effects on the short-term and long-term models.(e) Resource performance & reconciliation analyses (involved).

I was mployed by an open-pit and old tailings mining operation, Voorspoed Mine. The mine mainly targets a kimberlite pipe orebody, with minor complementary Tailings Mineral Resources. I was responsible for: (a) Supervising a resource extension drilling project with a drilling team of about 6 people per drilling method. The drilling techniques used are diamond drilling (PQ and HQ) and reverse circulation drilling.(b) Monitoring ore movement across the mine as part of production geology roles.(c) Logging kimberlite core, face mapping for structures and ore contacts, scan line boulder mapping, borehole plotting and running volumetrics on GEMCOM.(d) Analysing resource performance/reconciliation, ore control, and Diamond Size Frequency Distribution across the resource.

I was employed at the diamond exploiting Kimberley Mines, which was targeting old tailings resources. My responsibilities were: (a) Monitoring the nmining of Tailings Mineral Resources (TMR) and drafting weekly geology reports for production and metallurgy teams. (b) Being part of a review panel for mine´s Slope Instability code of practice (COP) and procedures contained within the COP.(c) Supervising a resource delineation project with a team of 3 technical assistants; through a method of trenching, mapping, and sampling. (d) Assisting the mine geologist with monthly reporting of the Notional Recovered Revenue Index.(e) Analysing how treatable certain parts of the resource are, base on deriving the particle size distribution across the resource.
