Selina and I spent almost a year working very closely on the preparation and delivery of British House Rio, the UK’s hospitality house project for the Rio 2016 Olympics. I say 'very closely', when in fact, circa 80% of the time we were actually working remotely to each other, half of the team in Brazil and half in the UK. Selina was dynamic, energetic, efficient in all that she took on. Her positive attitude, even in times of pressure, was a true force of nature for the project and one of the essential elements which, for me, glued it all together and ensured that we delivered on time, with great results. Selina has a very approachable manner and works with respect, for suppliers, clients, partners. She was instantly appreciated and respected by our Brazilian stakeholders, making it seem like language and culture are no barriers to cooperative work. That we so quickly developed such an efficient and enjoyable flow of work from Rio-London, from Selina’s team to mine, with cultural barriers, time differences, and barely any face time; is credit to how Selina’s working and leadership style is contagious and an asset for any major project. British House, located in the iconic Parque Lage at the foot of Corcovado, celebrated the best of the UK during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, from its sporting excellence to its business and culture. Working for Her Majesty’s Government and with production agency, innovision, we curated and delivered a programme of 22 events over nineteen days, showcasing UK companies and expertise in sport, business, culture, education and tourism to a global audience. As part of the core operational team, we were responsible for leading the programme coordination from concept to completion, scheduling, audience generation and on-site delivery working with the three partners and the teams based in Brazil. The House was a resounding success, with over 8,000 attendees celebrating with Team GB athletes and social media conversation of #britishhouserio reaching 12.7 million. Show less
