The main goal of my study aims quantifying and appreciating the release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by the phytoplankton community in order to estimate its relative importance to total primary production and its use by the microbial loop.My current research focuses on studying the ecology of natural phytoplankton communities. Monitoring of its distribution, assessment of its viability (health) and estimation of the primary production are being conducted in several oceanic systems in order to face a wide range of conditions that are likely to be affected by recent global change processes. The study of such interactions may enable us to better understand the underlying mechanisms that govern the functioning of such ecosystems and help us predict the consequences of anthropogenic activities.
