I worked as an Independent tutor for children in their GCSE years, to deliver lessons and exam revision in Mathematics and Science subjects. this involved liaising with parents and students to effectively target weaker areas, and to build a rapport with the students. this developed my teaching skill as well as my leadership approach, to allow for greater communications and understanding. This resulted in increased performance from the study and lesson plans implemented. I Coordinated day trips and activities for students between the ages 10/11 and 15/16, in addition to dealing with issues arising on the day. these skills where further developed in the group workshops for non-native English speakers, from arts and crafts to sport and communication skills. To achieve this I had to act as a liaison between the upper management and the students on the courses. This improved my time management and flexibility and enhanced my leadership and communication skills. I worked as a part of a highly qualified team to ensure a safe and enjoyable environments for all the members on board, which involved teaching yacht safety in a high risk environment, for example night sailing in adverse weather conditions. Another aspect of this work was organising activities such as sail changes, cooking meals and keeping a clean environment, in addition to preparation before sailing in the mornings and evenings. I took part in two legs of the Tall Ships Race as a watch leader, this manifested as a leadership roll, which allowed for further organisational skills to be developed, this involved ship maintenance and monitoring to ensure smooth running. This developed personal skills such as inventory management for food, water and fuel to reduce shortages. I improved my crisis management skills and improvisational skills as both a leader and in a supporting role due to situations that occurred whilst onboard. Show less
