The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform semi-skilled and skilled operations and maintenance duties in the City wastewater treatment facility, including monitoring, operating, and maintaining equipment. Additionally, an employee in this class performs testing and sampling duties, including making equipment adjustments to maintain operational standards. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor and the indirect supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent and the Public Works Director. I started out as a laborer where I was quickly told they were trying to get me a full-time position in this department but City council wouldn't approve another full-time position. While normally people in this position get laid off due to it being a part-time seasonal position I was asked to stay throughout the winter month's as well to take care of all the essential duties such as cleaning bathrooms, picking up garbage, taking all of the garbage out of the parks and working with the Chamber of commerce to advertise on different signs across town. I worked as an Umpire and was asked to help umpire baseball tournaments as well as the local baseball league. Towards the end of my time as an umpire I was asked by the President of the league if I wanted to go get certified as an Umpire with him.
