Bio-art: Mycelium Internship

Working with the Mycelium Team at Mediamatic, to develop a process for making Mycelium based insulation panels for the Black Barn, at Bio-toop in Amsterdam. I was a designer in a team of interns. My responsibilities included: Beer brewing and research anddeveloping a protocol. Mushroom cultivation and wet-lab activities. Every 2 days growing myco-insulation panels & brewing beer. Updating server with designs, sketches, research and lab log book entries. Bringing design solutions to the table for stretching the panels jute material. Developing Collaborative Framework

Developing individual proposals for working with UCA academic programmes and its staff and students to the benefit of all concerned. This is an opportunity to expand on some of the ideas that were discussed at the event and any other ideas that may have arisen subsequently. The benefits of the work would hopefully become evident by having a better relationship between academic, students and the arts organizations thus contributing to the ‘creative ecology’ of East Kent; having tangible proposals for collaboration; new opportunities for UCA students; rich content for future networking; generally raising our collaborative ambitions. A collaborative project between artists and scientists. Organised two events in 2012 that introduced artists to Lucia Nº3, a powerful Neuro-Stimulator Lamp developed by two Austrian Scientists, originally with the intention of helping people access personal healing through consciousness. Now being taken to the arena of contemporary art. Produced a 10min Documentary of the making that also described the project as a whole. Film was shown on the BBC Big Screen in Dover Market square to launch the project.
