Sebastian signed up to be mentored as an international graduate student joining the University of Calgary in spring 2021. Since then, we’ve been in touch regularly and spent some time together enjoying the outdoors with our families. Sebastian is such a cordial, friendly, and adventuresome person. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him. He thinks deeply about his contribution to his field of study and career path. Likewise, he is curious and keen to experience Calgary, Alberta, and Canada and to make this his home going forward. One of the things that really struck me about Sebastian is how mature he is. I get to engage with many stellar students as part of my work at the University of Calgary, but Sebastian stands out for being very self-aware, kind, intelligent, and professional. He’s really the type of immigrant that Alberta and Canada are seeking; he’s skilled and outgoing, eager to experience and contribute to what this region and country are building in terms sustainable energy avenues for economic development. He pairs this work focus with a drive for being a part of a strong social ecology. He’s got a vibrant personality, loads of curiosity, and is willing to try any sport or outdoor activity in any weather!
