  One of the first of Melbourne's now renowned "street art" galleries. The artist-run and curated, Per Square Metre (PM2) gallery was a working studio and home for the 4 founders and partners who joined later on for the whole 4 years they were open. The gallery was an inclusive, community based, "art for the artist" establishment that regularly held events like 'Round ups' to bring the creative community together- professionals and newbies alike-on one even playng field. A 'Round Ups' was where any artist who wanted to, could pay $20-25 for their one sized canvas, and paint, draw, collage, sculpt, photograph, sew, create!, in any media, in any style, to a theme within a 24hour period-IN HOUSE. Then all the finished works were on exhibited and sold for the next week. If you've never painted in a room full of other artists for 24hours, helping, learning, inspiring and motivating each other,you'll never be the same. A 2-week turnaround on paid exhibitions meant there was always something new and exciting in the gallery and openings to attend to network and hang with friends. It was a lively and inspiring spot that gave alot of artists their first exhibition. It will be missed. And Melbourne will miss not having a central place for artists to gather -professionally and just for fun that isnt a pub. Show less
