I was employed at All Print & Design, Dublin, as Graphic Designer/Typesetter using InDesign, Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. The work was primarily Dunnes Stores promotional material (ranging from designing leaflets, A0 posters, shop store A4s and other POS to corporate stationery), outputting to film or digital printer. I worked for The Artwork Group in London on assorted trade magazines (Building, Chartered Surveyors Weekly, and other trade related titles) on the APL 200. Apart from working on journalists’ articles, my duties included typesetting and designing of adverts of various types.I was employed by Solecast (later Solegraphics) in London where I worked on titles such as Cosmopolitan, Prima, Good Housekeeping. I was also involved in typesetting ads for financial houses such as First Financial, etc. All this work was done on the Linotype 2000 (DENZY). I also worked on daily newspapers (The Morning Advertiser and other national titles) on Linotype System Six.In 1992, when Cosmopolitan moved to a company named Wordbase based in London, I was employed there to work on that title and also was engaged in working on their own work (mainly Commercial Union (now Aviva) material, i.e. brochures, adverts, documents and reports & accounts). This work was done mostly on a system called AD2000.From 1993, I did quite a lot of freelance work, working for companies such as The March Hare and other companies in London, mainly working on Lino 2000, doing a variety of different jobs.In 1996, I rejoined Wordbase, London, where I had been working using Quark Xpress, Photoshop etc. for five years (on both PCs and Macs). The job entailed most aspects of typesetting and design. I also had training on Taiga (computer to plate and imposition system). The work involved was varied, i.e. reports & accounts, adverts, brochures, etc.1979-1985I was working for European Printing Corporation and a firm called ICPC – both of which specialized in the typesetting of scientific journals – some of which were in different languages.
