      I took command of B Battery, 1-161 Field Artillery on extremely short as the battery was already in preparations to deploy to Iraq. As the commander I was directly responsible for 125 artillery soldiers, assigned medics, and interpreters. I was responsible for the morale, welfare, and training of all subordinate leaders and soldiers. Responsible for planning and developing combat operations. The battery conducted combat operations for 445 consecutive days. Led the battery during Operation Iraqi Freedom and commanded in the battalion’s most active combat zone. As battery commander the unit was responsible for training with and conducting counterinsurgency missions with Iraqi Army and Police Forces. The battery secured the highways in an around the battalion area of operations. In addition the battery was directly responsible for the successful capture of many Iraqi criminals. I interacted with Iraqi leaders to enable the populace to be a part of the stabilization process within their communities. Mission focus included stability operations, counter IED, QRF, counterinsurgency operations, area security, joint operations with Iraqi forces, EOD & KBR escort, and offensive operations. Show less

      Directly responsible for the training and welfare of 9 soldiers and NCOs. I was responsible for maintaining firing capability, maintenance, movement, security and fire direction of six 155mm self-propelled howitzers. I also had a force protection mission, as we were deployed to Ft. Riley, KS for Operation Noble Eagle. In this capacity I was responsible for maintaining all mission related equipment and weapons. I was responsible for daily battery operations, the battery QRF, supervising platoon physical training plans and individual weapons qualifications. Developed a streamlined vehicle dispatch procedure to ensure that the battery could successfully conduct the force protection mission.
