Orlando, Florida, United States My team and I travel the country, conducting week-long camps centered in faith and community service. Our locations this year are Steubenville, OH, New Castle, PA, Knoxville, TN, Nashville, TN, and Greensboro, NC. My official title is 'Tool Assistant,' a position in which I coordinate tool supplies to be sent to and received from the worksites each day. But my primary responsibility is youth ministry of the campers.

Germantown, Wisconsin, United States I had always been curious about the nature of a server’s job leading up to this position. I learned that it is a high-intensity, high-pressure job that requires profound multi-tasking skills. What’s more fascinating, though, is the opportunity it gives to practice building relationships with strangers on a micro level. What’s more fascinating, though, is the opportunity it gives to practice building relationships with strangers on a micro level. The relationships last only as long as the stay of the customer, but every party that walks through the doors wanting some food and beer has a completely different set of personalities, and adjusting the tone of my social skills to meet the dynamic of my tables was an absolute blast. On several occasions I had to switch between being a soft-spoken server that rarely interrupted for a table of introverts… to being a boisterous, bantering server with a rowdier table. And I loved it. Show less

    • Camp Counselor
      • Aug 2016 - Aug 2017

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, United States In two consecutive summers, I had the privilege of serving as a counselor at a week-long STEM summer camp for kids who have military family. My role was to keep the kids safe and engaged with the camp activities. We played games, created campfire entertainment, hiked, kayaked, and created an exciting and educational overall experience for the campers. If being a counselor taught me anything, it was definitely leadership and patience (major emphasis on patience) in working with children.
