      The Los Angeles Zoo displays over 1000 animals on 113 acres in the heart of one of the largest cities in the world. The education department is instrumental in engaging and delivering the conservation education message to the 1.65 million visitors received annually. I am responsible for planning and directing all development, staff training, hiring, and marketing for the Zoo Camp programming. Conducting informal education training for Zoo staff and volunteers ranging from 17 – 50 persons. Assist education director in developing, implementing, and evaluating the education department strategic plan. Regularly serve as the education director, on a rotating basis, supervising all education staff and programming needs. Coordinate design and construction projects for the interactive educational play space, the “California Condor Rescue Zone”. Provide reports and presentations for Zoo Board Commission, Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association Board of Trustees (GLAZA), Senior Staff and AZA diversity committee chairs. Develop educational programming for the Zoo’s special events. Represent the education department as needed in media events/filming.

      The Santa Barbara Zoo is a 30 acres Zoo featuring a collection of 500 animals including great apes, red pandas, penguins and a dynamic collection of big cats. Serving as the family and youth programs coordinator, I was responsible for the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation of the Zoo’s special events and fee based educational programming. Compiled and presented required records and reports, such as program attendance, operating budget reports and participant demographics, to senior staff and board of directors. Coordinated with Zoo staff to develop and implement marketing strategies for educational programming. I was also the education department’s spokesperson on several occasions for local news interviews. Assisted with fostering donor relations with private individuals, board members and special interest groups.
