I teach the Introduction of Archaeology lab at Texas State while I am pursuing an M.A. in Anthropology - Archaeology. This involves teaching undergraduate students basic archaeological concepts such as site mapping, lithic and ceramic identification and analysis, and stratigraphy. Often, I work one-on-one with students, answering a wide variety of practical and theoretical questions in the field to allow them to develop a complex understanding of the field of archaeology. This job also includes grading assignments, providing feedback and constructive criticism, and keeping detailed records of student progress, Show less

I worked as a Field Technician on the Bois D'Arc Lake Reservoir Project for about six weeks. For the first four weeks, I processed flotation samples in the lab. This process involved mixing soil samples with water and small amounts of baking soda before separating the light fraction from the heavy fraction with careful pours. After this, I removed any artifacts from the heavy fraction. During this time, I also completed minor clerical and cataloging work in the lab. For the last two weeks, I excavated features in a midden scrape area at 41FN114, This involved defining and mapping the top of a feature, bisecting it while drawing a detailed plan map of its contents, and ultimately determining its bottom depth before drawing a profile map of the bisection. This work also included photography and copious note-taking throughout. Show less

At The Escape Game Austin, I worked closely with guests, guiding them through one of our five unique puzzle games. My job consisted of orienting new players to the game, making sure that they understand the rules and how to call for clues, then watching each team play the game, providing hints and clues when necessary. I also kept detailed notes of every game. After each game, I systematically reset the room, which carries with it a high degree of accountability, as one mistake can ruin a team's experience with the game. Show less

With Sylvan Learning, I worked at the local Eastside Memorial High School, where I worked primarily with 11th graders, preparing them for their state-mandated STAAR test in U.S. history. I worked closely with teachers in the Social Studies department, making sure to cover specific TEKS in order to adequately prepare our students for the test. In addition to instruction, I also kept a detailed record of which students I am working with, and the amount of time I spent with each student. At The Whim, I contributed five news stories a week, covering current events. The Whim uses a simple article format that is fact-based, and relatively unbiased. I learned how to research a wide variety of topics quickly and write effectively in the appropriate format. During my time as a news contributor, I had several articles published, including a few on the recent controversy surrounding the removal of Confederate statues and monuments. I primarily delivered pizzas and completed a variety of other supporting tasks for the store. In addition, I became somewhat of an unofficial supervisor and leader amongst my coworkers. In the last two years, the company acquired a company car for the purpose of making deliveries, and I was one of two people whom the owner trusted to drive it and represent the company on a full-time basis.
