I believe that technology is a tool. Like all tools, technology requires a thorough understanding of purpose and utilization. Purpose is the problem you are trying to solve. Utilization is the means for solving your problem. At HawkPoint, we work to understand your business. We want understand your purpose and your problems. Leveraging the proper implementation of technology is how we solve your problem to achieve your purpose.I do plenty of "President" tasks with financials and operations planning, but passion remains in IT consulting. I will always take the opportunity to work with clients to ensue a proper strategy in place and we are working together to ensure your business is secure. Whether it is a disaster recovery/business continuity plan, technology replacement strategy or simply modernizing and driving the business forward, I am passionate about helping businesses use technology to improve and/or accomplish goals. With the VP role, I continued to reshape HawkPoint. With access to financials, I started to make sense of how each division worked and was budgeted. On the IT side, I designed projects and oversaw major installations. Working in conjunction with our Business Development team, I acted as account manager for many of our IT and software clients. From consulting, to sales to jumping in and helping with IT projects, I maintained a strong presence in IT.On the software side of the business, I worked to standardize our commercial software. We had lived with the assumption that software must be customizable, to be effective. After seeing first hand, the issues this assumption created with maintenance and support, I worked with our development team to get a single base version of our software, thus improving overall functionality, as well as maintenance and support. As with IT, I worked in a sales and account management capacity, ensuring we understood and met our clients needs. Show less

I wore a lot of hats in those early days at HawkPoint. We essentially had to build an IT division, so I spent my days creating and overseeing all areas of our Managed Services division, including staff. At night, once the kids were asleep, I would work into the twilight hours, creating policies and processes, to shape HawkPoint, to what it is today.

I am thankful that the Lawton's and employees were patient as I learned to effectively manage IT. As a manager, I found patience for employees and end-users. I learned to look beneath the frustration of coworkers and and find empathy for their issues, as to help them get back up and working. I learned how to create an annual IT budget and I worked with accounting staff to create CapEx proposals. It was in this role, that I stopped looking at computers and servers, and started focusing on the people using the tech. One could say that I grew up, as an IT professional, in this role. And, upon departing, I learned a lesson in humility, as I accepted my termination (cost-related downsizing) and found that I had the confidence to use this opportunity and advance my career. When asked for advice, from young IT professionals, I will tell them to start their career, working internal IT. IT service companies are great, but working IT, in a midsized manufacturer, teaches you that IT "toys" are not what drives a business. You learn to learn the business, and apply technology where it counts. You learn to justify your ideas, with analytics and sound business intelligence. In this job, I learned that IT is a lot more than computers. Business IT needs purpose.

I got into photography, as a hobby, in 2006. Over the years, I've improved my skills and grown confident in my ability to capture the moments, that I want to remember. I was asked, and agreed to do a couple weddings, which is an amazing exercise of getting barked at by a bride who has been looking forward to this day, since she was a kid. You really learn to work under pressure, when you take wedding pictures. In 2011, my sister-in-law, wrote and published a book and I was hired to take photos, for that book. It was a cool experience and I was exciting to be "published", doing something I enjoy. Show less

Not every job is your dream job and early-career jobs shouldn't be perfect. Tek Systems was temp work, which gave me a wide variety of experience, in a very short time. On a technical level, I was doing migrations, projects and support, for some very big companies, like Schneider National, Plexus and Northwest Mutual. As is the general nature of temp work, the work was comprised of thankless, unpleasant work, that no actual employee would want to do. I learned to suck it up and work hard, as to make an impact and take pride in everything. The team at Schneider was great. I learned a wealth of technical information, was involved in some big projects and had a great time, with the wonderful people that I worked with. Plexus was a great opportunity, because I was responsible for C-Suite, due to my work ethic and communication skills. You learn a lot, supporting the folks on the top floor. I was also very lucky to work with some of the best IT professionals in the business, who taught me about tech and supporting tech. You'll never find a middle-school kid, who says that they want to be a temp worker when they grow up, but it is jobs like this that shape a career. A lot of hard work and experience was jammed into this two-year span. Show less

Marsh was a nice starting off point, for my professional career. I worked with some great folks, and I was able to utilize my graphic design education, in addition to providing IT support to 10/12 individuals in a satellite office, in Appleton, WI. I was able to learn the ins and outs of working in a professional environment and get some real world IT experience. Marsh was a nice starting off point, for my professional career.
