My current position as an industrial mechanic with Horizon Health is in the Adaptive Seating Department. Where I work directly with the department head and another occupational therapist and industrial mechanic. This is a fast-paced, client-focused position. My skills allow for the the quick adaptation and mechanical repair to power and manual wheel chairs and various other medical aids. Over which time the scope of my job has evolved to include millwright duties. I have achieved the required work experience and knowledge and have written and obtained my red seal millwright license. Working at the central repair facility for the Province, I have prioritized and performed work on a wide variety of jobs including but not limited to the manufacture and repair of hydraulic cylinders, bearing and seal replacement on heavy equipment parts such as shafts and bearing housings. Installation, adjustment and operation of hydraulic systems including pumps and control valves for snow removal equipment. I developed time saving and job specific procedures for the installation of bearing shims packs to accurately pre load and align gear sets for drive units on our costal ferries. I designed and implemented the current tag and lock out procedures for our shop. Installed, anchored and levelled shop equipment like lathes and milling machines. I have performed rigging and lifting operations for mobile cranes and operated overhead cranes up to ten tonnes. I am experienced working with other trades to achieve the desired outcome on a job. Preform machine maintenance and repair . Diagnose and repair various types of equipment . Assist in the training of apprentices as required. Actively participate in all company sponsored events and activities such as safety awareness , lift truck operation and recently an Insights based team building day.
