Software Engineer

Nov 2018 - Present
As a software engineer at API Alliance, I am constantly implementing and improving the functionality and user interface of various software solutions for a few of our customers. My projects have tended to last for weeks or months at a time, which is a good fit for my attention to details (but not my attention span). Usually they "come back" to me at a later date, with the need for bug fixes, troubleshooting, new features, or product line expansions. Some of the essential skills and experiences I've picked up here that I didn't have in school include Windows / .NET development, working with legacy code and platforms, and, most importantly, the simple fact that real-world projects don't hand all their requirements to you up front. Assembler

Oct 2016 - Jan 2018
After several months as a temp-to-hire assembler here via ResourceMFG, I finally made the conversion to Wabash National's payroll. The work was essentially the same (eventually progressing to mostly truck bodies), but as a much more experienced worker I had a better sense for how to handle familiar and unfamiliar situations as effectively as I could. The most important thing I learned at Wabash is that the specific things you learn in classes are generally not crucial to your job. Classes teach you to think in certain ways, but the most important learning comes on the job. Factory work taught me how to keep pushing through difficulties and demands, and I learned a thing or two about teamwork too. Reason for leaving: I decided I should be trying again to use my degree. Also, the stress, both day-to-day and intra-day, was a lot. Show less

Assembler (temp-to-hire)
-
Jun 2016 - Oct 2016
To help keep me engaged and cover expenses during my career hunt, I took on work at a Wabash National manufacturing facility in Lafayette, with ResourceMFG acting as my temporary employer. My role involved working in a team to continuously execute various tasks related to the assembly of commercial trailers. This had a steeper learning curve than I had experienced at United Technologies. It also built endurance in me, as I got used to working hard each day, sometimes in excessive heat, seeking ways to use my special strengths to complete ordinary assignments to the best of my ability.
