After 11 years in high schools teaching courses across the spectrum of English and theatre, I returned to the University of Nebraska in the fall of 2018 as a full time Ph.D. student in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education. There I taught foundations courses in education, as well as methods and seminar courses in secondary English ed, and I mentored dozens of secondary English-language arts practicum students and student teachers. My research interests focused on teacher preparation and the gender and demographic divide between teachers and students in public schools. My dissertation research provided the incredible opportunity to work with a diverse group of men in an English teacher education program to better understand the ways their social, ethno-racial, and cultural experiences shaped their understanding of themselves as men, as students, and as teachers, with the aim of uncovering factors that impact the gender and cultural imbalance between students and teachers.
