Principal Environmental Scientist

Sep 2013 - Present
In early 2013 I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Farallon team. It is the first consulting company I have encountered where the culture and team is held above individual goals. The engineers and scientist possess a unique understanding of the business that leads to solution oriented consulting that exceeds the clients expectations and needs. Farallon also adheres to a strict quality standard that is unmatched in the industry. As a Principal Environmental Scientist, I will be working on Farallon's growth initiative in expanding business in the southwest, starting in Sacramento, California. That expansion will occur through teaming arrangements with a number of highly experienced independent consultants in the area. This network of contracted professionals allows rapid response to client needs in a variety of geographic locations. It is Farallon's intention to eventually establish numerous brick and mortar office locations throughout California and the southwest.

May 2003 - Sep 2013
My move to URS was performed to provide greater resources in serving due diligence clients. At this time I began assisting clients with European and Asia due diligence projects. I also began working with various law firms on merger and acquisition due diligence work. My time as URS was spent largely managing staff on environmental due diligence and remedial action projects, but it also afforded me to get involved in some alternative projects. I assisted with development of a Brownfield decision tree for the California Department of Toxic Substance Control, and performed a Brownfield redevelopment feasibility study on a property in the East Bay. For one client, I developed a global asbestos management plan, and environmental audit protocol.

I moved to Versar in 1998 for two reasons: 1) to be more involved in environmental due diligence projects; and 2) to move to the Sacramento region (and closer to my mountain and water sport passions). I was hired by Versar to act as liaison to AMB Property Corporation in their efforts in pursuing environmentally impaired properties (Brownfields, although the buzz word did not exist at the time). As the client manager for AMB, I oversaw environmental due diligence activities on large portfolios of industrial properties across the nation. On Brownfield properties, I performed evaluation of historical data, generated remedial estimates, and assisted with obtaining cost cap and finite risk insurance policies to manage long-term risks. Upon acquisition of an impaired property, I managed design and implementation of remedial actions, including soil dig and haul, soil stabilization, soil vapor extraction with groundwater air sparging, and insitu chemical injection.

I began my career in environmental consulting working for McLaren Hart. If you had a temperature and a degree in those days you were hired. Duties included many hours on a drill rig in the Hillview Porter region of Palo Alto, and at a large aerospace facility in Sunnyvale, which was almost my second home. As my experience level grew I began to manage projects and diversify my experience. The majority of the remediation projects I worked on and managed consisted of chlorinated solvent plumes, but I also gained experience on petroleum and metal release properties. I also spent a three month stint acting as lead foreman for decommissioning of a missile factory in Sunnyvale. That experience led to performing additional decommissioning work for large corporations such as IBM. Mid way through my career at McLaren/Hart I began working on environmental due diligence projects in the budding stages of the industry. That experience led me to pursue the business line with greater earnest

During the summers while going to college, I fought forest fires with the US Forest Service to pay bills. As a squad leader, I was responsible for the health and safety of my crew and lead numerous hotline attacks on fires from California to Idaho. I feel like this was my military experience.
