Served as summer research intern working on two projects with the research and education team. One project was a retrospective breast cancer study that aimed to determine if there was a change in diagnosis when a surgical excision is done after a core biopsy. The main project focused on the effects of the implementation of a discharge navigation program in the General Surgery Department. The aim of the study was to determine if the program facilitated, standardized, and improved the overall patient discharge process. Additionally had the opportunity to shadow Geisinger's surgical faculty in both clinical and operating room settings on a weekly basis. Also attended weekly Multidisciplinary Tumor meetings during which multiple caregivers from various departments discussed treatment plans of complex breast cancer patients. Show less
