As a result of my on ground work and reporting for Peace Direct and the website PeaceInsight as a local correspondent and peacebuilding expert in Lebanon since 2014, I was asked to join the first Global Advisory Board of Peace Direct for a term of two years at least. I am honored to be the only member residing in the MENA region. My priority is to make the voices of grassroots activists, including women and refugees, heard and considered in the organization's strategic plan, programs and projects. Show less

Since 2014, I am the local partner and peace building expert in Lebanon for Peace Direct whose website Insight on Conflict is a leading source on peace building efforts worldwide. On the Lebanon section, I map organizations and feature articles on internal reconciliation and refugees issues on my blog. With other experts, I contribute in comprehensive reports, case studies and research projects. In 2016 and 2018, I served as a jury member for Tomorrow's Peace builders award. As a result of my work on refugees' issues, I was invited by UNESCO in May 2017 to be a panelist at the World Press Freedom Day Celebration in Jakarta speaking on migrants and refugees portrayal in Lebanese media. With Peace Direct, I took part in the Alliance of Peace building annual conference in Washington in October 2017 and 2018. The focus was on the role of peace builders in CVE/PVE global and local policies. I also discussed the topic in the Syrian/Lebanese context and the roles of local peacebuilders at the International Peace Institute (IPI) in New York in 2017 and 2018. Show less

I edit and arrange the archival material documenting the daily news of refugees in Lebanese publications, as well as their portrayal in mainstream media. The outcome is published in books serving as references on the history of refugees' presence in Lebanon. The project aims to prove that hosting refugees has been an integral part of Lebanon's history, thus they shouldn't be blamed for its fundamental problems. In documenting the daily livelihoods of refugees and the racism they endure, we are indirectly documenting and monitoring Lebanon's sectarian and political fault lines and our society's own demons. Media Adviser/Officer

Aug 2018 - Dec 2018
MENAPPAC (MENA Partnership for Prevention of Armed Conflict) , along with PPM (Permanent Peace Movement) which hosts the MENA chapter of GPPAC, recruited me for the position of media officer/adviser for a project on Human Security in the region. It consisted of a series of lengthy, in-depth articles in Arabic, based on research and interviews, to introduce the concept to a broader audience in the MENA. The project was executed with a gender sensitive perspective. The project was repeated in December 2019 - January 2020 on the topic of Women, Peace and Security and UN resolution 1325 NAPs in the MENA region. Show less

May 2001 - Jan 2017
At Annahar, my writings focused on Arab Spring issues and emerging democracies, women causes, Syrian and Palestinians refugees, Islamic radical movements, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran issues. I went twice to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2009 to cover general and presidential elections. I have been to Libya in 2012 few months after the toppling of the Kaddafi regime. In both countries, I conducted political interviews and wrote features on human rights issues, new political systems and peace building efforts after the wounds of war. I have been on several work assignments to Switzerland, Bahrain, Oman, Poland, Algeria, Brazil, Germany, Morocco, Kuwait and Turkey, covering high profile events and summits, and interviewing prominent political figures. Prior to that, I worked at Al Kifah Al Arabi newspaper shortly after graduation from the Lebanese American University in 1997 with a BA in journalism with distinction. Then I contributed in the establishment of Al Mustaqbal daily, and worked for a year in the foreign press office of the late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. Show less
