With my experience in two different fields (pseudo uridine synthase and ocular gene therapy), I started my independent career in the field of molecular microbiology. Initially, I was studying the interaction of Vibrio cholerae with E. histolytica. Though we published one paper in J Med Micro, the project did n't go further. While pursuing, I came across the world of biofilm and quorum sensing which has become a primary focus of my lab. We are exploiting natural QS mutants to screen small molecule inhibitiors. Other than qs, I am also interested in model systems to understand bacterial pathogenesis and host response upon infection. In this connection, we have developed a yeast model to understand the function of bacterial virulence factors having eukaryotic domains. This yeast model is very useful to screen chemical libraries. Did post doc with Late Prof. James Ofengand (Jim) in the field of ribosomology / pseudouridine synthases of E.coli. Published three papers in RNA (2) and JBiol Chem. My second post doc was with Dr. Richard L Hurwitz, TMC, BCM, TX. There I worked in the field of ocular gene therapy. Published one paper in Molecular Therapy. As a visiting fellow, I spent two months in 2008 with Prof. Guannar Sandstrom group in SMI, Karolinska, Sweden Did post doc with Late Prof. James Ofengand (Jim) in the field of ribosomology / pseudouridine synthases of E.coli.
