Have known Professor Saumya Ranjan Dash first as an exceptional case writer (at IBSCDC, where I had the pleasure of working with him), then as a devout researcher (at IIT Kharagpur's VGSOM) and then as an outstanding faculty and a great institutional builder. All these years there are four facets that have kept him ahead of the pack and makes him highly sought-after. His eagle eye for spotting the gap, his willingness to explore the unknown and understanding of the same in great depths. His rare ability to connect the dots to derive the big picture. His exceptional people orientation. And his passion for his profession. Best is he is gifted with all of these in equal measures and that makes him a rare breed of Professorial material. An evolved academician indeed. I am sure he would not only be one of the best rated faculties wherever he is, he would be the most loved one for his sheer ability to embrace the many. I feel privileged to be a student of Prof. Saumya and to learn Management Accounting from him at IIM Indore. It would be an understatement to say that his knowledge in Finance and Accounting is profound. Despite his deep knowledge of the subject, he has a distinctive flair for explaining complex concepts simply. He makes his class very interesting through relatable examples and encourages us to think from the first principles. His lectures were full of thought-provoking use cases from various industries, which helped us relate the financial concepts to business decisions and its outcome. With almost no experience in accounting, I was worried that I might not be able to follow his lecture thoroughly. My cohort included people from all walks of life who also had an endless line of questions. It is commendable how patiently and calmly did he answer each of us. He ensures that no student leaves the class with any doubts. He was also spontaneous to explain the same concept in multiple ways to bring clarity. It is proven beyond doubt that Prof. Saumya's classes will help us immensely in our work and business to make decisions, keeping the financial inferences in mind. I highly recommend his lecture to all executive management and entrepreneurs.
