  I worked as a Lecturer in Political Science in Vidyasagar College, Kolkata for 12 years from 1978. I worked first as a Lecturer and afterwards as Senior Lecturer in the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata for less then two years. I joined the Calcutta University as a Reader in 1991 and has been working there as a Professor from 2006. My areas of interest include Indian and West Bengal politics, politics of the marginalized groups, environment, health and healthcare.
