At Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), Jodhpur I was associated in the following Research activities: 1. Assessment of Neem International Provenance Trial’, with an objective to study the phenology of flowering to identify the good provenances for raising quality seeds by understanding the period of flowering and its overlapping with other provenances. 2. Demonstration trial of male & female Ailanthus excelsa plants raised through grafting and tissue culture. 3. In vitro mass propagation of Jatropha curcas L. and optimization of low cost options for economizing the technology. funded by ICFRE, Dehradun 4. Bamboo Locational species Trials under NMBA Project. 5. DBT funded project entitled “Multiplication and field trials of suitable species of Bamboos through tissue culture in Rajasthan” During this period I had evaluated the Combating Desertification Projects (CDP) of five forest Divisions viz., Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Pali and Nagore and evaluation reports were submitted to the respective Department Under NAP propgramme four FDAs of Gujarat and Rajasthan were evaluated and assessment reports were submitted through AFRI Nodal officer to EIA Division ICFRE for onward forwarding to MoEF. The FDAs evaluated were Gujarat: Bhuj, Dang (North) and Panchmahal and in Rajathan Pali FDA was assessed. Show less

Forest Biotechnology & Tissue Culture of Forest Species: Since 1990 to 2001 work on in vitro cloning of forest tree species of economic importance was conducted such as hybrids of Eucalyptus (E. torelliana x E.citriodora, E. tereticornis x E. camaldulensis, E. camaldulensis x E. tereticornis) , Dalbergia Sissoo, D. strictus, B. nutans, and B.balcuoa Pinus roxburghii, Paulownia F1.hybrid of Paulownia –C-020 (P fortunei x P. tomentosa) and P.fortunei through axillary proliferation, shoot tip culture and adventive organogenic pathways. and Neem was developed. NEEM: Morphogenic response of meristematically active and non meristematic tissue was studied; Significance of the ontogenic and morphogenic age was also studied; Genetic Improvement of Trees: 181.8 ha seed stands has been converted for the species, Pine, Eucalyptus and Dalbergia sissoo. 28 ha CSO (Clonal Seed Orchards) has been established for the species viz., Eucalyptus, and Dalbergia sissoo in Uttaranchal, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh. 25.2 ha SSPA (Seedling seed Production Area) have been established of the species viz.. Eucalyptus, Pine and Dalbergia sissoo . 4.0 ha. Vegetative multiplication garden of pine and D.sissoo was established , Under NOVOD Neem Project 1200 trees were selected in the first phase for the screening of oil and azadirachtin content. Out of this 150 trees were found to be having high oil content. The zone surveyed by me includes Haryana and Punjab. These zones include 63 trees bearing high oil content ranging from59.10% to 44.61% and Azadirachtin content varies from 0.333-0.666%. Show less

At Conifers Research Center, Shimla (now HFRI, Shimla) I was actively engaged in the research work related to development of nursery and planting technology of important Himalayan conifers and broad leaved species viz., Abies pindrow, Picea smithiana, Populus ciliata and Populus deltoides. A provenances trial of poplars and Salix was also laid out at Tabo (Spiti valley, H.P.) and assessed. Some laboratory experiments on Induced mutagenesis were also carried out on Abies, Picea and Poplars. Field evaluation of gamma rays treated cuttings was done. In this we were able to isolate some mutants having significantly higher resistance to leaf rust of poplars. Further heterotic individuals of poplars were also isolated and put under further multiplication. Nursery and Planting Technology: During my stay at Conifers Research Center, Shimla I was actively engaged in the research activity related to forest genetics, tree improvement, planting stock improvement, development of nursery technology for important Himalayan conifers and broadleaved forest tree species. During this period work has been executed on provenance performance trials in the cold desert area of Himachal Pradesh. Nursery and planting technology of some important conifers like silver fir and spruce was developed. Induced mutagenesis work on poplars and conifer species was carried out. Show less
