The Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS) at IIT Madras will serve as a Centre for Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change. It will conduct research, technology development, training and knowledge dissemination in a set of four thematic areas - energy, land-use, waste and water relevant to climate change scenarios in India. I will be coordinating and collaborating the research initiatives in the areas of Waste, Water and Land-use. The Kalpakkam Community Radio Station (KCRS), first-of-its-kind in any of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) installations was launched on 26 January 2011 at Kalpakkam. The KCRS broadcasts programmes in the areas of Agriculture, Culture, Fishing, Education, Health, Environment, Women Empowerment, Music, History/ Archaeology, Literary Segment, for the neighbouring villages within 12-15 km of Kalpakkam Township. The KCRS has 9 hour daily transmission (including repeat transmission) during 6 am – 9 am, 11am to 2 pm and 5 pm – 8 pm. Show less
