Responsibilities: I teach math classes of approximately 40 students each and am responsible for as many as 160 students at a time. My duties include leading 50-minute lectures supplementing the material taught by the professor, answering the students' questions, hosting office hours, acting as the intermediary between the professor and the students, and proctoring and grading exams. Skills: Most of my job is to facilitate the learning of convoluted and complicated subjects to students, so this has taught me how to communicate ideas in ways that are specifically tailored to the person I am speaking with. Additionally, lecturing in front of 40 students multiple times a week has greatly improved my public speaking skills and my ability to think quickly on my feet. Show less

Responsibilities: My primary focus was researching and implementing methods of summarizing the causal information contained in large corpora. Specifically, I collaborated with my managers to develop a method for automatically generating causal maps from text data. After developing and testing our methodology, I co-authored a paper that was accepted by the IEEE International Workshop on Big Data conference. Skills: Conducting research on multi-document summarizing facilitated my understanding of natural language processing, including sentencing parsing, sentiment analysis, sentence embedding, and text processing. Additionally, I gained the skills needed to conduct, write, and present novel research in data analytics. Show less

      • Jul 2018 - Aug 2019

Responsibilities: I worked in the advanced analytics department of the marketing consulting company Hypothesis Group. When working on a project at Hypothesis, my responsibilities were as follows: given a research goal, decide what type of analysis to run, implement the analysis, and then communicate the results of the analysis to team members and clients in a coherent manner. Skills: Running advanced analytics required me to implement and refine a broad number of statistical learning techniques, which I primarily coded in R and Python. The most common techniques I used were MCMC algorithms, Hierarchical Bayesian models, general linear models, SEM, random forests, FA/PCA, correspondence analysis, dominance analysis, hierarchical clustering, self-organizing maps, and centroid-based clustering. I developed code in Python to collect data from websites. In order to estimate the profitability of various fast-food chains, I implemented time-series models using R. After completing my project, I wrote created a final report on my project. Skills: I attained programming skills in Python and R. I also gained experience in stochastic statistical modeling by working closely with my employer. Additionally, I learned how to communicate technical concepts effectively.
