Enhancing my skills in C# programming by developing internal software to help create a faster and more efficient business, while learning new skills such as developing using Classic ASP (vbscript) and integrating software options such as mapping APIs and PDF libraries. I've also had the chance to experience working with hardware components, such as disassembling a custom-built computer, installing switches into server racks and setting up a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch. Action Network
-
Sep 2014 - Mar 2016
The Action Network consists of a group of students hired to manage an assortment of tasks related to student and college events. My experiences strengthened my social skills by speaking with students for a variety of reasons, such as event advertisement, front desk management and event management. SUCCI always strived to have the Action Network practice and build on skills that we thought needed work or would pose a challenge for us, so hosting game shows and speaking at events helped me sharpen and improve my public speaking skills greatly. Working with students in the Action Network from all different corners of the globe helped grow my understanding of other cultures and enhanced my abilities to speak one-on-one with new faces.Working with the Action Network also included set up and take down of events (stages, backdrops, tables, chairs), documentation (event summaries, job reviews) and poster advertisement. Since the job was so versatile, I was able to spend time implementing a software system for inputting student survey data (on events and general student union performance) into a database which provided results in a concise and readable format.

I initially worked in the Hardware department, providing customer service including searching the store's product database for product availability and prices, along with helping customers discover what they're looking for to solve a specific problem or find a close alternative. I found that the time I had spent with my father and grandfather learning DIY skills was very beneficial in troubleshooting customer issues, particularly related to construction, plumbing and general household fixes.I was moved to the Automotive Parts desk during the summer of 2012 (even though I had no experience with vehicle maintenance) which deepened my understanding of customer service representatives and their ability to offer help regardless of their experience. Effective service can stem from asking the right questions, rather than having a prior understanding of the situation. For the remainder of my time at Canadian Tire I worked in the Sports department. This was very similar to customer service in Hardware, however it stretched my knowledge of fishing, hunting, and seasonal sports. By this time I was entrusted with merchandising, which involved structuring aisles to hold related products on shelves, hooks and other aisle fixtures, and printing price labels based on the fixtures used.Overall, my experience at Canadian Tire taught me how to work with people and problem solve by asking questions to broaden my knowledge base when insufficient. I particularly enjoyed talking with customers and listening to their experiences and troubles, as the wide range of information would have been unavailable with many other job opportunities.
