    • Academic Officer
      • May 2022 - May 2023

As Academic Officer, I was responsible for providing and supporting the academic needs of Members. I organised weekly tutoring sessions for a range of modules including skills-centred sessions like essay writing , revision and approaches to problem questions. I also provided group and personal 1 to 1 consultations and tutoring for 1st years to provide feedback and assistance when they received their formatives. I also organised the module selection event targeted at helping 2nd years make an informed decision about their optional module choices for final year. Along with running new initiatives, I moved previously on-line activities back in person attracting a commendable turn out to academic activities over the year. While the role was both challenging and time consuming , the fulfilment derived from being able to support and help fellow law students is an invaluable experience that I will cherish going forward. Joined the Worker's Party, the leading opposition political party in Singapore. Prior to commencing University, I was actively involved in a range of party activities in Sengkang GRC leading up to the 2020 General Election. The WP team contesting in Sengkang GRC became only the 2nd Opposition Team to win a GRC in Singapore's history. I continued to be an active volunteer from then on until September 2021 where I took a hiatus to pursue a degree in Law. Volunteered at the Birmingham Child Contact Centre. Job scope typically involves preparing and setting up rooms for contact sessions between children and estranged family members while facilitation and/or supervising contact sessions. The role is fulfilling for me as I have a personal fondness for Children and have volunteered at Children's home since I was student back in Singapore. I believe that Children are the future of tomorrow and they deserve an environment that is loving and conducive. Volunteered at the Birmingham Child Contact Centre. My experience at Tembusu Law was a fruitful one. I worked on a variety of cases, most of which in Criminal or Family practice. I was involved in researching case law and sentencing precedents along with independent research on the areas of Spent Convictions and Juvenile Sentencing Frameworks. I was also tasked to draft statements, mitigation pleas and compile bundles of authorities for trial. Some of the research I conducted included research for appellate level cases which warranted the death penalty if the defendant(s) were to be found guilty. The range and importance of the tasks I was assigned to meant I took great pride in raising my work ethic to be the best intern I could be for the firm. I am humbled by the trust the firm placed in me and my experience at Tembusu will put me in good stead for the future. Show less

I assisted in coaching the Debate Team in 2012 when I was in Secondary 4, working closely with the teachers to conduct training and preparations for debate and public speaking competitions. Upon graduation, I coached them alone in 2013 and co-coached them in 2014. Following which, I contributed actively in the capacity of an alumni for the year of 2015 and 2016. Most notably, I was conferred the 2015 Friend of Loyang Award for outstanding contribution to my Alma mater in English Society (Debate) making me the youngest awardee, at least in recent history. Successfully completed my student internship at M/s Tito Isaac & Co (TIC) as part of Temasek Polytechnic's Student Internship Program (SIP). I was attached to the Litigation Department under Senior Associate, Jonathan Wong. My role included drafting letters of representations, mitigation plea, compiling bundles of authorities, researching on precedent cases and sentencing guidelines for a myriad of cases. I frequently attended court hearings, judgements and pre-trial conferences that enabled me to appreciate the nuances of each case that I worked on. The internship experience has allowed me to make realistic observations of the legal industry as being both fast paced and gruelling. My internship allowed me to gain a better understanding of the work that lawyers do and be able to appreciate the gravity of the profession. In furtherance of the above, I was able to apply the the knowledge acquired from the course to aid and contribute to the firm. I strongly believe my Internship at TIC has put me in great stead for both my degree as well as practicing law in future. Show less
