She designed the first women's health fellowship in the U.S., helped create the National Centers of Leadership in Academic Medicine, the National Centers of Excellence in Women's Health, and landmark educational campaigns and policies on critical health issues. She has served on over 60 national and international editorial, advisory and nonprofit boards, commissions and task forces. Dr. Mark was also the Civilian Medical Advisor to 2 Surgeons General and the Public Health Service during this time. During Dr. Mark's 18 year tenure at NASA (1999-2017), she developed and advanced one of the first federal policies on assisted reproductive technology coverage for the astronaut corps as well as policies on research inclusion and oversight. She launched 2 seminal studies evaluating the impact of gender/sex on adaptation to space which has influenced engineering design, research and clinical protocols.
