Sustainable Development Goals and Curriculum Mapping Assistant
-
Apr 2019 - May 2020
While working towards my PhD, I helped a team in the Department of Social Responsibility and Sustainability to analyse data on the representation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the curriculums of different courses at the University. Analysis and visualisation of this data will be used to illustrate and fortify the University's commitment to the SDG Accord. Marketing Coordinator

Sep 2017 - Mar 2018
In 2018, I worked with a team at the Buchanan Institute to organize, market, and execute the Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference, which connected professionals and academics, to discuss sustainability issues and solutions. I helped to identify relevant sustainability goals for the Edinburgh area and created marketing graphics while managing key social media activity. I also identified and contacted local innovators to participate and speak at the event, and filled a key front-facing role on the day of the event.

Summer Research Intern
-
Jun 2016 - Aug 2016
At Biogen I worked in the Cell Stress and Innate Immunity lab, run by Jeremy Duffield. I worked under Lan Dang investigating the signaling pathways underlying angiogenesis. I spent my summer culturing both bovine and human cell lines and frequently executed gene knockdowns using siRNAs, RNA extractions, transformations of RNA to cDNA, and qPCRs. I also worked closely with my supervisor to develop and organize a new Zebrafish facility at Biogen. At Biogen I worked in the Cell Stress and Innate Immunity lab, run by Jeremy Duffield. Marine Animal Husbandry Staff
-
Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
In 2015, I helped to care for the majority of the marine animals used for research and educational purposes at the MBL. On the Marine animal husbandry staff, I learned how to share responsibilities with a team of peers and superiors. I cleaned and helped to manage the tank room of the MBL’s Marine Resources Center. I worked closely with the veterinarian staff to track and support animal health, and also assisted on a number of educational boat trips for the MBL summer courses identifying and presenting marine creatures for study. While also on the marine animal husbandry staff, I worked with the head of the Sustainable Aquaculture Initiative at the MBL, Bill Mebane, attempting to grow hatchling squid through the paralarvae stage. Through my work with Bill Mebane, I developed key organizational and management skills necessary for research. I designed and executed a number of experiments testing substrate brightness, light exposure, and diet’s effect on squid hatchling growth and survival, and also maintained the lab observation and operations journal outlining day-to-day squid behavior, growth, and experimental conditions. During any of my supervisors absences, I managed the project in its entirety.

Summer Science Intern
-
Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
In the summer of 2014, I worked as a forager and science intern for the foraging food provider Meadows and More founder, Tama Matsuoka Wong, managing the storage of seaweed samples and manipulating environmental factors to create a more favorable taste and texture of the seaweed product. I worked directly with Founder of Meadows and More to develop commercially viable seaweed product. During the project, I identified, cleaned, and packaged additional “weeds” (lambsquarters, beach rose petals, rosehips etc.) to sell to chefs to create a marketable land and sea “Cape Cod Flavor” and, ultimately, oversaw the care, storage, and packaging of seaweed (Gracilaria tikvahiae) for consumption.

Summer Aquaculture Research Intern
-
Jun 2014 - Aug 2014
In the Summer and Winter of 2014, I also worked at the MBL in the Aquaculture department as an intern. This position expanded my understanding of animal husbandry, proper lab and fieldwork etiquette, and teamwork skills necessary for experimental design. I helped to maintain shellfish (mussels, oysters, and surf clams) cultures and managed multiple tanks of stored gracilaria, modulating salinity, water quality, and light exposure. During this time I designed a number of experiments to manipulate taste and growth of Gracilaria tikvahiae samples.
