AP Summer Institute Teaching Assistant
-
Jun 2015 - Jul 2015
Sessions were four day intense "AP Art History Bootcamps" for high school teachers from all over the United States as well as teachers at American universities abroad. As a teaching assistant for the APSI Art History sessions at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago I was responsible for anything that was needed by the class on a daily basis. Duties included general administrative and clerical tasks as well as designing and organizing short activities for the students. The greatest benefit of TAing for this course was sitting in on the class. Through participating in learning objectives with high school instructors, I was able to learn an incredible amount about methods for teaching students about art history. The skills that I learned through sitting in on these sessions greatly inform my own experience as a graduate teaching assistant for courses at SAIC. I was able to learn from a professional development course meant for experienced high school teachers. Show less

Graduate Teaching Assistant
-
Jan 2015 - May 2015
In the Spring of 2015, I was a teaching assistant for Dr. Giovanni Aloi's AH 1002: Modern to Contemporary Art History survey course. In addition to holding office hours every week, I was responsible for leading discussion sessions about the reading as well as leading museum visits with the students during every class period. I was able to observe Dr. Aloi's very dynamic and interactive teaching methods in a classroom with over 100 students and I gained valuable experience spending about an hour on my own with a group of 30 students every class period. Dr. Aloi challenged his teaching assistants to be creative in our discussion of the reading as well as our museum visits. Our own interests were taken into consideration. Needless to say, I learned a great deal from Dr. Aloi and the students during this class. Show less

I held office hours every week and met with students about homework, tests or any general concerns about the course. Along with organizing and leading test review sessions, I was responsible for leading students on trips to The Art Institute of Chicago and grading all tests and essays.
