Most recently I have been spending two days per week digitising mapping data for traditional orchards (a UK priority habitat) onto a GIS database. This information will be used as a basis for the launch of the South Gloucestershire Orchard Project. Other support work I do includes liaising with environmental organisations such as the Environmental Agency and Wildlife Trusts in preparation for the launch of events and projects. As part of a team of 12 international volunteers I worked to improve the ecological condition of Sicily's beaches. An important aspect of the project was to involve local people and to alert them to the importance of caring for the natural environment. The project included talking to a local Environmental Councillor, taking part in a press conference and talking over the issues with a local mayor.
