I continue to look back at my time working with Sarah as a crash course in how to do community development work, and how to do it right. Sarah and I were both Program Managers for the work around the Creating Healthy Places Initative. Her energy, depth of knowledge and perseverance made the work fun, enjoyable and impeccable. When working together, she was a wealth of information as we coordinated key community planning meetings, well-attended community bike rides, and was a collaborator as we implemented youth mechanic bike stations in key locations in the Brownsville and East New York neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Sarah continues to be a resource for me as I think through my projects, adding "overseas thought partner" to her repertoire.
Sarah Sisco
Sarah is an exceptionally valuable, insightful public health professional who brings deep knowledge of nutrition, education, and community-based / inter-agency engagement to every work setting. I had the privilege of meeting Sarah when we worked together at the East and Central Harlem District Public Health Office and shared a portfolio of 14 elementary schools. There I saw firsthand her talent for brokering essential information with schools and across agencies, and her ability to create fruitful partnerships in relatively short amount of time. Sarah is also highly knowledgeable about best practices--she not only knows about the pulse of community-based health promotion nationally and internationally--but has a keen sense of where these practices can be applied and assessed for the greatest possible impact. She is a natural collaborator, team builder, and supervisor; a well-spoken, impassioned leader; and has an excellent ability to teach and convey information effectively, amongst the public, government professionals, prospective funders, and her coworkers. Finally, Sarah is remarkably dedicated to improving the lives and well being of all people--she has a stick-with-it-ness that is awe-inspiring and rare. I cannot recommend working with Sarah enough: she would be a fantastic asset to any workplace.

Jul 2007 - Jul 2011
As Child Nutrition Coordinator, I established and maintained partnerships within and among 50 elementary schools in northern Manhattan (Harlem). Working in collaboration with school teams, we identified barriers to school health and wellness programming. I coordinated trainings and linked schools with community-level, city, state and national resources and funding. I represented the office at food program and policy meetings, work groups, committees, coalitions, and conferences citywide. During 2010-2011, I managed the sugar-sweetened beverage campaign in Harlem, coordinated community outreach and education, managed evaluation outcomes and participated in a citywide working group.
